Diwali Party entwined with South Indian Theme

Diwali is gone but the afterglow remains. I am one of those who are unabashedly into the festivals and striving throughout the year for it. Since we are done with Diwali this year my brain has started making the leaps for “what’s next?” Though for now, I am still unwrapping myself from all the festive hustle and bustle.

On the other hand, we still have lined up Diwali parties that I am looking forward to enjoy. Since I read many of my readers are also in the same phase of parties after Diwali, thought to share few frames from our this year’s Diwali party. Given a chance I am always ready to set the stage for hospitality. Since Diwali was clued in with our south Indian themed potluck party at home, it was quite easy for me to execute.
Generously wide sitting area on our bay window in our walk-out basement is just right for a quite chat or solitary read as the bank of windows wash the space with bright light from outside. But I had better plans to use this space ;). The corner now acts as a center table and is a platform of my creativity. It now helps me add my personal touch and I play around for any party or special occasion by changing the look every time differently. I have planned my fair share of parties here and have become quite the hostess if I say so myself ;).
With all the hues closely related in bright background of classic marigolds, the scene automatically supports a mix of traditional and south Indian touch. Since we reside in a country where yearly flow of marigolds is quite impossible, I decided to gift myself these strings from India. Hubs dear, who often circles around the globe, bought them home right in time before Diwali. Trust me, having a supportive husband is a huge boon. With 'décor' being a shared passion of both of us, it is quite easy for me to convenience him to put up with my décor tantrums ;).
For Diwali dressing, style choices are myriad, what ever bling you throw in or you have in home will greatly influence the overall ambience. Superlative lose their luster when it comes to my brass and I know my friends have a major meltdown every time they appear in any of my parties. Hence, I didn't shy away to scatter them fully with some Diwali diyas for some pretty flickering flames. Though, most of the pieces here are heirlooms and antique store finds. The jug housing flowers is a real charmer that came home for only $6 from an antique dealer this summer.
Not only the décor was a stunning sight for my clamoring crowd  to take a selfie but our South Indian menu (Idli-Sambhar, Vada-Sambhar) and attire were equally enticing. Ending the post with the picture of 'us' donning the 'South Indian' look. Oh yes, 'jhumkis', 'gajara', 'bindi' 'bali', I took care of every tiny detail while dressing but I think hubs dear especially rocked the South Indian attire in 'veshti', what say? Along with 'Jimikki Kamal' dance moves and few playful games we ended our perfect soiree.

Hope you can jot down few notes of inspiration from here for your Diwali party , either this year or next year. Until we meet again, stay connected on my Facebook page or Instagram feed for more décor ideas. You all have a wonderful weekend, toodles!

A Dash of Glam on your table ( Diwali Tablescape)

Come of Diwali season and I get into the décor mode with the frenzy. Décor mania has gripped me very hard just like every year and I have started weeding through the best of my décor pieces to reflect Diwali cheer at my end. Along with delectable array of Diwali feasts, treat the eyes of your guests on a dining table laden with loads of sparkle and glimmer. Adding a festive interior spice will make that royal-on-going festivity of chiming cocktails, devouring Diwali delicacies and delicious tête-à-têtes into a memorable one.

If you haven’t yet given a thought of your festive tablescape for this year, let me help you construct one with the kind of things you use all year.  The series of such small pieces at my end have created a larger impact on the table occupying as layers for the festival.
The Diwali table is one place, I love to play and plan even before deciding the menu. A fine idea was brewing in my mind to use these brass coasters (recent loot from Home Sense) on my Diwali Tablescape and 'ta-da' they look fantabulous.
For that extra little glittering effect, I went overboard with the self-adhesive ribbon from Michael’s. It was super easy to peel and paste on my bare table runner. To add more interest, I also tried the ribbon on some ordinary looking candle votive. And I think I got lucky to achieve that richer look on the table, what say?
Along came the “Navratri” bangles as candle votive on the table. These bangles are a token of love from a dear aunt but they unfortunately didn’t fit me and I didn’t have heart to pass it on to someone else. With their flashy color, I decided to let them join us on the tablescape :). They befitted perfectly with my golden theme.

For a festive look, choose metallic colors such as brass and silver, they are not only timeless but they never fail to cast a spell to bright up a space.
Try a hint of red, it always works for me. From flowers to candles to tablemats, few thoughtful touches of red can go a long way with your any decorative style.

It doesn't take a lot of time or money to create a beautiful table....just a bit of imagination. Muster up some table skills and run with this as an inspiration to build one with an easy, cozy vibe so you can wonderfully smug about having it all done for the crowd of your favorite people.  You may also refer to my last year's 'Diya tablescape' here.

We have couple more Diwali Inspiration posts lined up next for you all, so, until we meet again, stay connected on Facebook page and Instagram feeds of Pinkz Passion, toodles!

Dazzling Diwali Tablescape

There is lots need to be checked off in coming days of festivities. Just like many of you, among the yo-yoing of Diwali shopping, cooking and making home ready to speak the spirit of Diwali I am also getting ready by giving final touches of festival.
The weather outside here is frightful but there is no better place to be than home for the celebration. Imminent arrival of Diwali is always a good excuse for putting up a play of lighting and swapping out accessories along with not forgetting friendly get together. Anyone who loves flowers and entertaining like me, Diwali is a perfect occasion to enjoy. Though, I consider myself a noob at decorating tablescapes yet I enjoy decorating table more than cooking a meal ;)
Table is an only place where details make difference, so create magic with little spark and elements that extol the joy this season.

To add the perfect festive tone, I have added a hint of warmth by spreading out diyas. I have swapped out the overflowing bins and boxes of decorating this year by opting out the earthen diyas remembering our childhood days of celebrations by lighting up each and every nook of our home. Also our daughter will be missed during festivities due to her midterm exams, I have scattered out few of her jewels for shimmer and shine around diyas from her scrapbooking box on the table remembering her. (The self adhesive jewels are under a $ from Michael’s store, once fetched out for her project came in handy)

I always begin by reviewing what I already have. As I have belted out many times to step back and run an eye on what you already own for any festivities or décor, however color unifies everything, so pick your color scheme and use that to bring out from your imagination. I have started off with the ultimate traditional power couple of green and red combination for this year’s celebration.

Focus on beauty while setting the table. Here I have called on a brass kettle for a center piece housing red carnations to flow with my colors. An added touch of glamour covered the mod spin with traditional colors.
I have added more glamour of gold with a placemat and red charger plates to make it more festive.
Adding a plain runner is like an empty canvas. You can create a variety of moods by changing any color on that natural runner. I had fun twists spreading the jewels informally to create different looks.

Amidst all the frenzy, if you cringe at the idea of having to play with last minute details at your tablescape where guests are gathered to vibrant conversation and enjoy all the Diwali goodies,  adopt my super easy and quick formula to get the table ready in a flash.
