Celebrating November and My Second Blogoversary

730 days….yes, approximately 730 days ago, Pinkz Passion was born. The fact is, this passion page was started on a whim in the middle of one sleepless night and two years and nearly 135 posts, I am still here and my, how much we’ve grown. My décor chronicles have led me to somewhere much better than I could have dream for. I am in a happy place where life tastes different, a little sweeter with all of you :). Opportunities find their way, when you unfailingly work hard in the area you are passionate about. Looking back after two years, I am constantly amazed that this is something I created and grew out of my passion.

Though, none of this would have been possible without you all. I can’t drop the opportunity to thank all of you for reading my blogs, commenting on my posts, fanning me on Facebook and following me on Instagram and all the other many ways in which you lovely peeps have backed up on me. And it still really jazzes me, when readers go out of their way to touch base with me and let me know that my blog has inspired them to look at their home décor chronicles in a different manner, especially with my timeless brass collection. My brass fondness has set a new trend in the décor stories of my readers and few close friends who have started their own collection. It truly warms my heart when readers sent in their pictures when they uplift corners of their home inspired by my posts, it makes me feel I have been invited to their home. I truly hope this little blog of mine can be a source of inspiration and do its best to help you look at your home décor stories in a different aspect.

I must confess that, few motivating pundits of blog industry have been the silent force in shaping up my blog. Stirred from their style, I often feed myself from their inspiration and motivation. After all, that is what blogging is about….get inspired and be inspired.

As we move forward to the month of November, we have a beautiful home tour lined up next which has been bottled-up due to Diwali posts. Also a post of moods of my entrance (sitting in a draft for a while now) has been overlooked but will try to pull it back and publish it in November.

However, after November I am planning a digital time out and hoping to pull the plug from blogging for a while and restore my serenity as I have travel plans to meet and mingle family and friends. Will share a final post of the year sometime later but until we meet again, stay connected, toodles!

Traditional Touch

I absolutely love the natural color and rustic appeal of terra cotta. Though, unlike India where there is an abundance of such artifacts found almost everywhere, sadly in my part of the globe, to enjoy their charm, we only have to cautiously lug them in our handbags from our visits to India. Few slices of such earthy clay wonders are shifted on the coffee table.

 

 

As you know my personal treasures are the essential finishing bits around my home, and few of these long forgotten treasures are called in service. Ever changing eye catching display  on my coffee table is always welcomed here with artfully placed vignettes of accessories.  

To complete the ethnic vignette I have paired my kutchhi handbag as a base of the vignette. Few clay wall plaques which have followed us from our previous home are placed to link them visually. The darling little Ganesha here is a thoughtful gift of a dear friend who knew our collection was lacking a clay Ganesha, and he is now added as our cutest member in the growing gang of Ganesha :)  

The colorful and bright effect is making me wonder how an artisan creates these tiny details and textured pieces in many shades with just a fistful of clay. Whatever will be the era, the charm and instant glamour of terra cotta will always be pretty inspiring, until we meet again, stay connected on my passion feeds of facebook or instagram, toodles!

A month of romance...

Catching up after a heck of a busy day, trusting that with February marching in, your truckload of January resolutions are still intact and not drained to pipeline just like mine ;)

Weekends these days are much more perkier when we enjoy temporary joy of being with our older teenager visiting home and content to the fact that she is returning fully charged with love. Our weekend life now mainly evolves storming ourselves with loads of cooking, stuffing and sending off for our university gal. Though, when hubby dear gets busy in circling the globe, this mommy dear juggles to make this grind sound more of a pleasure than chore. Even though, our girl has started to get better shots of university life; I still find myself stitching the thread of unease while dropping her off, though I pretend to ignore the look of displeasure that crosses my face while waving her goodbyes.

Mother Nature in my part of the world is still surprisingly looking green. Massive snow storm in USA, which blanketed parts of USA in a single day, sent off an actual year's supply of snow, but nothing here. "No Snow" is a rarity for Canadian winter and it has started giving chills to all winter park resorts. No matter which side of the weather war I am in but for now no shoveling…yay!

On the blog front, I have got you covered with all necessary shots of love for the month of romance. I have roped in a tablescape made with muchos muchos love, a post drenched in for my love of brass, and a Buddha post probably will find a way out which is still in between edit-write combination. Additionally, I have a tour of the tiniest room in our home – Powder Room, it may be the tiniest but packed with décor punches all around and you don’t want to miss :). Artist... in the house - 2

If you barge in without a brief knock, in to the topsy-turvy muddled room with a teen, who is  busy collecting her thoughts and cranking loud on ‘Drake’ songs; you are precisely in my artistically engaged daughter’s room. The 17 years old, who exists in her own world surrounded by squiggly scribbly paint tubes and palette filled with sequence of color, is our proud artist of the home.

You will never find any precise clues to measure the craziness of our oddball.  When colors start to flow, nothing matters to her, she travels to her own artistic beats. She is gifted of seeing beyond ordinary by building solid layers of paint. Her current vacation life is copiously focused in working tirelessly and energetically in putting her innate talented art into making master pieces. She is highly enticed by the elephantine countenance of big pot bellied GANESHA, just like us. Hence, her almost all creations evolve around his different "avatar".

I had to twist her arm (teenagers, I tell ya) to write up few words for her own creations, I managed for few and rest I had to end up writing but here we are. Join me as I rejoice the pleasure to share the part -2.

Mirror worked "Ganesha" with lotus.

 Ganesha and lotus go hand in hand in this pictures. A lotus flower always looks clear and pure beneath the murky waters. Just like that, the lotus in this painting is a strong symbol of beauty beneath darkness, which is represented by the black background. the Ganesha sits in the middle of the lotus as he is the god of new opportunities and luck. In my opinion, I feel like it is important to be bold and stand out in darkness when given a new opportunity.

 

Hibicus headed "Ganesha"

 This painting is a remake of a wonderful artist "Kruti". This specifically caught my eye because of the contrast of blue and orange against the black. It was a great pop of color. Moving on, the orange flower resembles "Ganesha's" crown and I felt like it was a unique choice to use a hibiscus as they are tropical and the most beautiful flowers in Carribbean. This one is my absolute favorite.

"Ganesha" on Lotus

The painting originally was supposed to be an outline of "Ganesha" but once I saw the salmon color in my paint box I knew it had to be used. The simplistic image on "Ganesha" really embodies how powerful his power is. The flower at the bottom makes it seem like he is emerging from the petals which I feel gives a strong pop of color and resembles how "Ganesha" is everywhere from nature to family.



Chakra "Ganesha"



This colorful piece was really fun to paint and is something that I look forward to doing again. The colors I used as a wash for the background is to resemble the "chakras" the one inside us. I see them as vibrant and beautiful and I just wanted that to be expressed on my canvas.

Mirrored peacock

Just like the tranquil creature, I wanted for this painting to capture how beautiful and timeless a peacock always looks. The feathers contain the typical mix of a natural peacock color plus gold to symbolize "old is gold". No matter how many years these creatures have been around, their looks never go unnoticed. Small detail of mirror work need to add some dimension in the background and feathers.

Color Stroked "Ganesha"

Her creative spirit is deeply rooted with the art but when teenage life triggers the mood swings and particular creative thoughts flow, signature piece like this particular "Ganesha" takes place. As a result of her vision and courage to think differently, we see new master pieces being built in no time. This one is her first piece officially sold.   

Ekdanta "Ganesha"

This Ganesha is a thoughtful gift for her very dear friend. With her inner edit button and lots of artistic potential she easily gives bare canvas a splash of wonderful colours. Our heart goes out for the eyes of her every creation. The soulful eyes evoke the peacefulness in every piece.

Aum "Ganesha"

When I was about to publish the post, a new creation was formed overnight and I had to include it. For most of her creations, she shakes her world all night long, just as this Ganesha was created by burning the midnight oil to complete. Though, final pay off is amazing.

For now, she is completely stirring the excitement of 'escape' phase of life. She managed to squeeze in one last piece with very much detailed work just few days before she embark on a new journey.

As I conclude the post, artist in the house is all set for her new chapter of university lifestyle. We are about to dive in to the empty nest syndrome which will end the early journey of our parenthood. With the pressing ache of separation we will be sending the young adult to start the new phase of her life. without her glamour in the home, things will not be the same but we both are happy to see out little girl shining brightly.

Summer Strokes!

Stroking some bite size ideas on my summer notes today. To undertake my decorative goals for the welcoming season, I try to acquaint with a new colour scheme and the existing pieces to set the style and create little area of cosiness. My mind always has thoughts floating around to shake up seasonal décor for approaching a better look and feel the place in my home. 

Mingling with accessories and playing with what I own offers me an abundant preference. The principal factor, in my most decorating projections, is our proud crew of "Ganesha”. I take liberty to coddle in some unique combinations by providing contemporary spin on traditional pieces with the benefit of different Ganesha.

 

Exhibiting my brass wares for spreading out flowers is a resourceful way for seeking out the unexpected. I mostly incline for grouping of 3 objects to lend the visual power that only one alone would not give.

Rotating cushions is also my way of giving a splash to a space. Bold and deep colour for winter and/or light and airy for spring/summer looks always enticing.
 

For this season, I have punched bold pop of yellow and mango to build that summer triumph effect in the room. Custom-made cushions from Bristi lend a hand to complete that summer arrival in my niche.  

My family tour will mention my affection of cushions and how every so often I change them. Of course, I don`t have that many cushions, I have all those different cushion covers which are always welcomed in the room according to my frame of mind and décor swings. Besides, they are quite easy to wash and put up when not in need. My linen closet is packed with those dressy, casual, colourful or neutral shades of covers.

Face lifting the fire place mantel from season to season is also on my evolving décor mantra. Stirring things around can make the same room feel so fresh.

 

Mr. Sun`s sweltering summer rays in my family room add the last touches on my vignette.

When I survey the scene after smoothening out every wrinkle, straightening pile of books, mist with linen spray or lit a candle to pleasantly hazy the room, I honestly get seduced every time I enter the place.

Rediscover your style with a little of this and a  little of that to open up a stream of variety in your decorating styles. Turn those under the eaves corner into justifiably known one. Be undaunted in your approach and you will succeed. Till we meet again, toodles!    

Hello Monday :)

Hello Monday, here I am scooting over countless chores and juggling with many balls at a time. Taking a compulsive break to get connected with you.  Catching  up with a quick post to gather all the energy I might need to survive for the rest of the week.

Unveiling today, another signature piece of Ganesha from our collection. His stress-free and peaceful mudra leaves a smile on my face at every glance.

Past few days have been working against the clock for me as we had a  “pooja” arranged at home this weekend. Lovely crowd of family and friends accompanied the occasion, hoping to share few glimpse soon J. Though, presently, I am turning a blind eye to all the chores on the horizon for me.

My agenda of the week is jam packed with tons of activities. Lingering haze of many draining dance practices and few final touches of an approaching weekend dance performance is etched on the screen of my mind right now.

Also, last exam of school life ended for my daughter, leaving us with a thought of how fast the life and childhood slip away so soon. We have hard time grasping the truth that daughters grow up so fast. Since exams are over the young girl has a fresh reason to go on a shopping spree with mom for upcoming prom.

 

The good weather is also to be blamed for being inattentive on the blog front. I have professed my official envy for those who can take pleasure of indoor and outdoor life throughout the year, but for us Torontonians, just few warmer months bring our "boring" winter life to some  "chatpata" weather. Hence, busy enjoying the first taste of sandal season after long.

A Springy Welcome

Our home is punctuated with many personal collections of 'Ganesha'. Many gifted, discovered, collected and inherited exquisite pieces are often revealed on facebook page. Though, some pieces of my collection tug at my heartstrings. Today's special appearance of my absolute favorite Ganesha is one of those piece. It is one of the interesting decor find of our proud collection. As soon as I had my eyes landed on him, I knew this fabulous, exceptional and unique "Ganeshji" is coming home. Many of you have witnessed my winter oasis of front foyer, created with all neutral white leaving a calm effect inside during those chilly, white winter months. Today, taking you closer to a more springy note. Few swirling spring thoughts and trial & error phase has resulted this vignette  cheering at the front foyer.

 

This fabulous plus of "Jhula Ganesha"(swing Ganesha) has been added to our collections since almost 10 years. The spring has repulsed my thoughts and my décor fundas to exhibit a remarkable piece from our collection. And on one of those "design moments" well chosen pieces are all set to guard my entry utterly uniquely.

 

 

Flowers have always been my best bet. A quote on one of the recent read; "Any thing that holds water can mostly be used for housing flowers" takes after my theory of setting flowers. Beside, nothing looks as inevitable as fresh flowers when you enter the home. Flatter the style with some fuss free arrangements of fresh flowers and you will be complimented at every initial encounter at the front doors. I have set them in an antique brass kettle to suit my purpose here.

 

 

 My mirror where I check on my last appearance before heading out the doors has reflected the perfect capture of the vignette. The proud brass lion is a visiting card holder piece which was rescued from Aj's office desk to complete the boldness on my table.  

 

 Lately, brass details implemented into home décor are a huge hit. The common thread of brass stiches this vignette together as well.  Posing above "the Ganesha paintings" add playful hit of solid colors. The back drop art of brilliant water color painting of Radha-Krishna on cotton canvas was a gift from Jaipur (15 years back) which I treasured by framing. It has been just displayed informally  here so that I can alter different looks more often on that console table.

 

 

 

After gathering up all well chosen pieces for entrance,  I stir up some fun and achieved this look of spring at the front foyer. Have you added some design punch at your entrance to upbeat the mood of spring? I would love to hear all about it,  until we meet again, toodles!

Spring is in the air

Happy Sunday folks, finally Spring is in the air. Toronto was soaked up in wet and muggy shower kind of weather but honestly, the weather has whisked me away, I feel I have rediscover myself after a long hiatus. The first trace of dawn in bed is surprised with whistling and chirping of bird songs outside, a hot cup of my ginger tea is enjoyed with occasional visitors in the pond of my backyard and evening is indulged by trailing off for a long briskly walk breathing in the pleasant air.

 Mr. Sun is perking up in little corners of the home and enveloping us in a bear hug. My spring blooms adopt a perfect look in the sunshine adding bonus of enjoying spring.  

This little transition has rekindled my love affair with Mother Nature.  Surveying these scenes create a new surge of assurance that warm days are just around the corner after big hangover of wintery days.  I am determined not to mess up with this chance of warm spring weather ahead and enjoy it with my happy-to-be attitude!  Wish you all a very happy week ahead, I know I will have a good one as my weather bug has all double digits Celsius lined up for me :)

Why one, when two can tango!

Punching things back to blogging by welcoming new members on the ride.  Happy Friday passion buddies! 

Come to every Friday, I start translating my world at my own pace.   My spirits get uplifted infusing corners of my home with fresh flowers. After a compulsive rush of fetching flowers home, I feel instantaneous need to create something. I have lost count of the number of times I created or arranged this pretty vignettes at home.  Itching with an opportunity to create something different every time with a bit of imagination on the decorating front always calms my day. After a play of couple of possibilities of perfect arranging, today I feel satisfied with my achievement of the grouping of these 2 beauties. Seeking out an unexpected result and sharing it by writing about your passion is a pure pleasure I have felt through this blogging world.

 
My fondness of flowers and fancies for brass enriches this décor of only two items.  Artfully paired Nritya Ganesha on top of two swan brass diya completely enlivens the space. Trusting my instincts, I bravely housed the spring blooms in an ice bucket. The ice bucket is an antique find from a yard sale which caught my eye while strolling through web ;)

 

I love being in the company of them on weekends, when I treat myself with a hot brew or a favourite book. Adjusting my eyes to their prettiness makes me feel energized before heading over to challenging piles of chores ahead.

Desi Twists on Coffee Table

With the end of kids spring break, time to knuckle down to usual routine for many moms like me. Well, I did muddle through few days of break at work and devoted some extra time being in the hosting mode. My maternal success rate grows straight up in those exacting days when I get surrounded by being mommy dear to my little one with handful of other pre-teens. Few baffling deals of chess, puzzling strikes of carom board and exciting card games along with their compulsive use of consoles tied up their time along with mine making those popcorns and milkshakes.  Little glow of satisfaction on his face fills up tiny splinter of relief in me, being with him.  Though, after playing the gracious hostess, I did steal a dinner + movie date to kick back and tackle the week ahead ;) 

Let's dismiss the subject for now, and without further ado, get going to lend some off beat sense of style to our coffee table. Injecting a little magic to a bare canvas sitting in the middle of the room confidently adds wondrous drama. A definite place to impress your guests, with your added touch of flair to spark a conversation.   

Perfect bit of foundation for style and organizing on coffee table starts with a tray. Corral the clutter with a decorative tray. It tops up being an impeccable element in my upholstered ottoman. The tray can be easily removed for an essential extra seating in the room or to rest a foot at times when I slink away with  my book.

These dynamic tray duo takes endless rounds on my coffee table being the focal point in my family room with different avatars.
 

Handcrafted effigy of metal Ganesha placed on flower got his way to our home being a return gift for a wedding in the family. Decked up tulips adds a stylish flourish and inviting drop on this vignette. Playing with the height boosts some extra interests with accent pieces.

 

Spring is definitely making itself known around my home. Books are added to heighten the balance on my favourite Buddha display. An infectiously serene look on weathered stone Buddha was love at first sight and without me having to ask Aj,  Buddha was packed and ready to come home ;)

 

 

Some gorgeous pieces of repeating silver set on my bandhani throw are connecting element in this traditional vignette! Could be a perfect fit for a winter oasis inspiration in home. Pure silver Ganesha was another great hunt of Aj. Along with Ganesha few other additional pieces of silver are studded on the marble top. When radiant rays of sun pay visit to the bank of windows in the room, the bling bling sterling snips away all the fatigue.

                   

 

 

A round tray could be a good bet to place minimal pieces. Three is a magic number to stage any object for a visual balance. Here traditional Ganesha gets hipper with modern spring blooms stolen from my daughter's room.

 

Silver, brass and gold have a way of promptly elevating any space. Real blooms adds an inviting touch on this traditional setting. I find flowers are complementing and easy to work with while creating any kind of look.  To make an impact of collectibles, leave some extra room to rest your eyes. Table mat added that extra pop of the red colour on this setting.

  

 

Not much fussy but casual grouping of three with a pop of solid colour favours these modern metal candleholders in this setting.

Working on these alluring settings did not cost me a fortune. I played safe by changing and rearranging things I have had for years to take on a fresh look. You may get lucky to find long forgotten treasures or décor pieces that will get you an exceptional look in your room.  

I feel a welcoming vibe every time I enter my family room gussied up with beautiful coffee table arrangements; some sort of cozy feeling of belonging there. Impress your guests or soothe your soul by blending style and casual colour combos with some easy on eyes and interesting pieces on your coffee table.
